Is the browser version free?
Yes, the browser version is free to try: nothing to install and no account to make. Start it here →
Where are my saves?
In your browser, on the device and in the browser you played on: a quick save, five save slots and three autosaves, with campaign progress kept separately. If you clear the browser’s data, the saves go with it — you can export them to a file in the game and load them back later.
The desktop (Steam) version saves into your own user folder, and Steam Cloud keeps it in step between your machines.
Does it run on phones and tablets?
Yes. Tap to march, drag one finger to move the map, pinch to zoom, press and hold to open a card about anything. You can also install the game on your home screen as an app. On the biggest maps a computer is more comfortable.
What computer and browser do I need?
An up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari with WebGL 2 (every current browser has it). The graphics quality can be set in the options.
When is it coming to Steam?
Soon. The desktop version for Windows and macOS is being made; we will announce the Steam page and the date in the changelog. Until then there is no wishlist link — if you see one somewhere, it is not from us. What will the Steam version have? →
Which languages?
English and Hungarian, completely — you can switch in the options at any time.
Can I play online?
Yes, in the browser version. One player opens a game and the others join the waiting room with a six-character code; there is chat, and a match can be paused and resumed later. Up to eight players. There is also a local-network mode, and hot-seat: up to eight people at one computer.
In the desktop (Steam) version online play is switched off for now.
How do I control it?
Left click to march and select, right click for a card about anything, drag to move and turn the camera, Space to end the turn. The full key list is on the Demo page. With a controller, the desktop version’s menus can be driven; the map and battles need a mouse or touch.
How can I become a tester?
Fill in the sign-up form: name, e-mail, platform and how much time you would have. When the next test round starts, we will e-mail you.
Who makes it?
Ancient Crowns is an original work — made by John Crystal (Los Polos Games). Daily progress is in the changelog.
